The City of Groß-Gerau required a reliable foundation for the strategic planning of its transport infrastructure maintenance. The objective was to carry out a comprehensive, objective assessment of the condition of roads, sidewalks, and cycle paths across the entire city, while identifying future maintenance needs and providing a sound basis for maintenance planning. To achieve this, high-resolution roadway imagery and survey data were collected through a systematic network survey. The results were made available in digital form, creating a transparent, data-driven foundation for future investment and maintenance decisions.
HELLER surveyed the road network using specially equipped measurement vehicles and e-scooters that recorded high-resolution images and data on road smoothness. Homogeneous condition sections were then identified and evaluated in terms of structural integrity, drivability, and construction methods. All results were integrated and visualized in the web-based infrastructure management platform ONE.byHeller in real time as the data was collected. HELLER was able to analyze the inventory and condition directly within the platform and share the information with the administration.
Within a short period of time, the City of Groß-Gerau gained a comprehensive, digitally accessible overview of the condition of its road, sidewalk, and cycle path network. Through ONE.byHeller, the city's administration now has an intuitive platform for transparently assessing maintenance needs, as well as efficiently planning and prioritizing maintenance activities. Roadway imagery, network data, and condition information are available online in a single platform, supporting a wide range of administrative tasks—from strategic infrastructure planning to day-to-day operational management.
